Palermo: Extend the summer in Italy

Palermo is the wild, pulsating heart of Sicily. While some travelers find the hustle and bustle overwhelming, for others, the city embodies the quintessential Southern Italian life-just like Tatiana, who took us on a tour through Palermo and shares her best insider tips in the article.

For example, Piazza Aragona in the La Kalsa district invites stylish shopping and indulging with its small shops and cafes. Or Piazza Caracciolo, where street food is sold during the day and at night you can dance to live music-a perfect blend of vacation for body and soul that you can only find here.

If you have more days available, you can start a wonderful road trip from Palermo across the island. Sicily has so many stunning places to offer that deciding which direction to explore first will be a challenge. You can find great orientation and plenty of insider tips in our article on the most beautiful places in Sicily.

The best time to visit Palermo

Utrecht: Canals, cheese, and Dutch tranquility

Of course, we all know how beautiful the Dutch capital Amsterdam is. Utrecht, however, is often overlooked-completely unfairly! This slightly smaller city offers everything needed for a weekend getaway and is just a short train ride (about 40 minutes) from Schiphol Airport.

You might be inspired by the insider tips from our blogger Sarah-like the underground ruins directly beneath the Dom Square in the heart of the city, where you can walk in the footsteps of ancient Utrecht. Afterward, there are countless cafes and eateries perfect for a tasty bite: Eet smakelijk!

Warsaw: Insider tips for the capital of Poland

In Warsaw, the old meets the new, art meets culture, and above all, Polish hospitality meets a modern metropolis. A weekend is not enough to explore all aspects of the city, but a short trip is the perfect opportunity for a 'first date' with the Polish capital!

In addition to the typical attractions, we especially recommend a visit to the alternative district of Praga across the Vistula: Here, artists, students, and night owls gather, and there's always something going on. Simply strolling along Ząbkowska Street, you'll definitely feel the neighborhood's unmistakable vibe.

For an authentic experience, be sure to eat at one of the milk bars: These spots serve traditional Polish home cooking at affordable prices. Like in a cafeteria, you can eat not only at many places around the city for a low price but also in style and good quality. For many more tips, we recommend Julia's article on insider tips in Warsaw.

Sarajevo: A different kind of city vacation

For many, the Balkans remain a blind spot on the travel map away from the known beach destinations on the Adriatic. This will change in 2025! Bosnia and Herzegovina combines nature, culture, and history into the perfect vacation cocktail.

As a starting point for a road trip through Bosnia and Herzegovina or as its own short trip, we recommend the capital Sarajevo. This city is as historically valuable as Jerusalem, as cool as Berlin, and as romantic as Paris-all at once! Once you sit in one of the traditional establishments in the historic Baščaršija district with the national dish of Ćevapčići in front of you while the lively city life bustles around you, you'll understand what we mean.

Brussels: The heart of the EU in the middle of Europe

The Atomium is one of the top 10 attractions in Brussels.

Where can you stroll past the palace of a king while visiting the democratic center of the European Union? Right: In Brussels! The European Parliament can be visited not only in its own experience world but also brings many different people and their influences to the Belgian capital through its representatives from Lisbon to Athens and Helsinki to Valletta.

So if you feel like a weekend trip across Europe, you should add Brussels to your bucket list for 2025! And don't forget to enjoy a serving of typical Belgian fries and treat yourself to one, two, or even more chocolates for dessert.

In addition to culinary highlights, the city also offers classic attractions: At the Atomium, for example, you can explore changing exhibitions while wandering through the spheres and tubes of the giant atom. Discover art, great food, shopping, and many exciting stories all in one place-Brussels is worth it all year round.

Marseille: From eyesore to gem on the Mediterranean

For a long time, Marseille was seen by the French as a dirty, unattractive port city. Today, however, the city has worked hard to cultivate an image as an attractive alternative on the Côte d'Azur and combines French savoir-vivre with European coolness.

Did you know that this image transformation is due to a daily soap? In 'Plus belle la vie', the fictional stories of the Marseillais - as the locals are called - are often set in famous locations in the city, and because of its popularity in France, many prejudices about Marseille have been dismantled.

The best photo motif is also a very well-known place: The Vieux Port (Old Port) offers wonderful Mediterranean flair with exciting views-like that of the Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde, which is visible from almost everywhere atop a hill overlooking the old town. Naturally, many other sights await that will make you quickly remember Marseille.

More tips for short trips

There are certainly many more great cities in Europe off the beaten path that make a short trip without long travel possible. Just swipe through!

Insider tips for your vacation in and around Europe

Ireland: Discover the green island along the Wild Atlantic Way

In western Ireland stretches the longest designated coastal road in the world: At 2,600 kilometers, the Wild Atlantic Way is a real experience. Biggi and Flo have summarized all the insider tips along the Wild Atlantic Way from the southernmost point in Cork to the North.

And the journey is worth it! From centuries-old monasteries to mystical stone circles to idyllic waterfalls, the drive along the coast reveals one highlight after another. So if you have at least two weeks and a strong desire for nature and stunning landscapes, go west!

Balkans: Road trip through the most beautiful countries

In 2025, you should add the Balkans to your travel list! Not only because traveling here is still affordable, but also because the countries on the peninsula in Southeast Europe boast an incredible diversity: Mountains in Montenegro, emerging cities like Pristina, wild nature in Romania-we could almost go on forever.

This also allows for incredible flexibility in your travel planning: From last-minute city weekends to weeklong vacations to an extensive Balkan road trip, vacations can be arranged freely-many different cultures, landscapes, and exciting outdoor experiences are all included!

Capitals like Sofia in Bulgaria, Skopje in North Macedonia, or Tirana in Albania are easily accessible by flight and form the perfect starting point for your journey: Simply stay a few nights locally first, then rent a car and embark on your adventure.

Italy: Insider tips for Apulia

There are hardly any people who don't love Italy: The warm hospitality, the incomparable Dolce Vita, and above all, the Mediterranean food make the boot-shaped country in the Mediterranean a dream destination. Apulia itself is already almost an insider tip-this region at the spur of the boot around Bari offers plenty of sights in quick succession.

The other postcard towns in Apulia also combine an incredible flair with Italian relaxation. Perfect for forgetting everyday life on a round trip and filling your belly with a divine portion of pasta!

Southern Norway: Fjord landscapes around Oslo and Bergen

If you prefer the mild temperatures of the north, southern Norway should be on your travel list for 2025! The capital, Oslo, provides the perfect starting point: In the hipster district of Grünerløkka, fine cafes pop up one after another-only interrupted by cozy bars and trendy vintage and designer shops.

But nature is also possible: Metro line 1 takes you along the Oslofjord out of the city to the starting point of many hikes. This is just one of the many activities in and around Oslo that Biggi and Flo summarized in their article.

You should also keep Bergen in mind when planning your route. The country's second-largest city impresses not only with harbor flair and a fish market but also with its proximity to nature, as it lies in a stunning setting between the two largest fjords of Norway. In addition to extensive hiking, you can also explore the Sognefjord by kayak.

Both cities can be easily combined for a road trip with stops at breathtaking landscapes and give you a full dose of Southern Norway!

Hungary: Tips for a round trip through the country

Hungary is still under the radar for many travelers. Completely unjustly, as the small European country has so much to offer. In the capital Budapest alone, you can spend several days and still not see everything.

Next, head to the European Capital of Culture 2023, Veszprém, which has a long history as one of Hungary's oldest cities. Here, you can admire more than just medieval buildings. Veszprém is a vibrant student city with many good restaurants and small cafes by the river.

To relax, head to the Balaton, also known as Lake Balaton. The beaches along the shores invite swimming, and the thermal baths are perfect for unwinding. All of Melanie's favorite spots in Hungary are compiled for you.

If you'd rather venture further afield, take a look at other continents of our beautiful planet.

Morocco: On the way to summer, sun, and the Orient!

Feeling like some oriental flair without a long flight? From the U.S., you're just about four hours away from Marrakech or Agadir, where you can start a road trip through Morocco.

Morocco is very well established for tourism, and you can do everything from self-planned trips in a rental car to guided tours-whatever suits your fancy: Coastal towns like Taghazout provide perfect conditions for surfing with their location directly on the Atlantic.

Behind the Atlas Mountains, however, lies a different world with gorges and the vast Sahara. From Azrou or Ifrane near Meknès, you can easily start hiking. And at the souks-small markets in towns-you can passionately haggle for spices and souvenirs!

The most exciting long-distance travel destinations worldwide

North America: Tips for the road trip through Canada and the USA

Have you ever heard of 'Indian Summer'? That's when, in late summer and fall, the colorful leaves of deciduous trees shroud many forests in Canada in a dreamlike atmosphere. A natural spectacle you must see! Calgary, east of the great National Parks Banff and Jasper, makes an excellent starting point for the road trip.

Further west along the Pacific coast, Vancouver invites you to blend city and nature-such as with a scenic flight over the city or an excursion to the beautiful nature of Vancouver Island.

If you have even more time and drive farther south, we warmly recommend the western United States. In Washington State (not to be confused with the capital Washington, D.C.), you'll find lush landscapes and exciting cities: In Seattle, you're on the trail of beats at the Museum of Pop Culture and can learn about American music history.

In the quaint town of Seabrook, located directly on the Pacific coast of the Olympic Peninsula, you can experience typical American small-town charm: Visit the small market in the center on Saturdays, savor burritos and a variety of margaritas at Koko's Restaurant & Tequila Bar, or stroll along the long sandy beach.

Central Asia: Discover the most beautiful corners of Uzbekistan

Looking for something entirely different? Then we recommend Uzbekistan. As a beginning for a road trip, the capital Tashkent is a great choice. In the city's parks, you can enjoy the midday sun and dine with locals.

In Samarkand, one of the oldest cities in the world, the Orient still bears its old, unaltered face. You can experience this impressively at the Registan Square, bordered by three sides by madrasahs-Islamic schools where lessons were held until the end of the 19th century. At the Central Bazaar, you can watch the colorful hustle and bustle of the locals: Here, vibrant, sequined fabrics are traded and the air is filled with the scent of thousands of exotic spices.

In the west of the country, you can dive deeper into Uzbek culture in Bukhara (Bukhara) or in Khiva (also Xiva or Khiva). The sandstone-colored houses and turquoise towers of the minarets provide beautiful memory photos as you soak up the atmosphere of the ancient Silk Road towns. The long distances in the country are best covered by train-the state railway of Uzbekistan now offers online tickets for a comfortable journey.

Madagascar, Mauritius, and La Réunion: Island pleasures in the Indian Ocean

Fly to where the pepper grows-Madagascar! The large island east of the African continent offers a unique diversity of plants and animals: 95 percent of species are found only in Madagascar. The capital, Antananarivo, is the perfect starting point for exploring the flora and fauna.

Tourism in Madagascar is still in its infancy-thus, the island is best suited for adventurous souls. You could bring back fresh vanilla and fresh pepper as souvenirs for your loved ones-delicious!

Paradise awaits a little further east in the Indian Ocean, on Mauritius and La Réunion. While La Réunion-by the way, a French overseas department and thus part of the EU-offers lush green mountain landscapes, gorges, and waterfalls better suited for hiking enthusiasts and action seekers, the dream beaches of Mauritius invite you for swimming and snorkeling.

Do you want the full package? Perfect, because the two islands are only a short flight apart and can be easily combined.

Southeast Asia: Discover Vietnam from north to south

In 2025, it's time to go to Vietnam! The country has so many magical places that we can hardly decide which to recommend first. Fortunately, we don't have to: The country is suitable for a road trip, for example, as Biggi and Flo did for three weeks: from the lantern city Hoi An in Central Vietnam to impressive peaks in and around Sa Pa in the far north, they have summarized their highlights-including their tips for the capital Hanoi!

But the south also has a lot to offer: In the largest and most important region around Ho Chi Minh City, life is vibrant, and the surrounding areas like the insider spot Binh Thuan offer surreal landscapes where sand dunes meet forest and breathtaking beaches will leave you in awe. No matter where you end up in Vietnam: You'll fall in love with the country!

South America: Overcoming the incredible distances in Brazil

Brazil is by far the largest country in South America and continually surprises with its size, which is almost unimaginable for us: The country spans 8.5 million square kilometers, almost as large as all of Europe. More than 60 percent of the Amazon rainforest lies within its borders, just waiting to be explored-perhaps on a river cruise, as our author Daniel did recently.

But the metropolises like São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro also give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the colorful life of Brazil. We were surprised by the close proximity of the city to nature: If you visit the Floresta da Tijuca or Parque Lage in Rio, you'll experience true jungle vibes right in the city-blogger Tatiana has already raved about it in her article.

It's important to take enough time in this vast country to explore as many regions and facets as possible!

East Asia: Wild landscapes in Taiwan

Lastly, we take you to the far east-in particular, to the small island nation of Taiwan, just off the coast of China. On the island, you'll explore wild landscapes and tall mountainous areas mixed with modern cities and a rich culture.

Once you arrive on the island, your first stop should be the capital, Taipei. The bustling metropolis is famous for the skyscraper Taipei 101, from where you'll have an impressive view over the city. Those who think Taipei is already full of life during the day should wait for sunset. Countless night markets open up, allowing you to indulge in the variety of Taiwanese cuisine.

Beyond the capital, a road trip through Taiwan is definitely worthwhile, as blogger Daniel did for us: From national parks like around Taroko Gorge, to the idyllic Sun Moon Lake in the mountains, to the oldest city Tainan, he explored the land in all its facets and shared the best tips with us.

No matter how much vacation you have planned for 2025 and whether you prefer many small getaways, multiple vacations, or an epic year-long trip: With our inspirations and tips, you'll navigate through the year successfully-we wish you safe travels!
